Breathless
This is the first single from'In Blue' and it's a very catchy pop tune. The traditional element it's almost ... not there, except for Sharon's violin (if you could only hear it ;-). The electric guitar and the drums put a lot of pressure on Andrea's voice because she has to make an extra effort to make herself heard. Thank God for the Sharon and Caroline's backing vocals to turn this song into a really, really good one! The lyrics are not as deep as those on the previous albums but they sure are catchy. This is definitely Caroline and Jim's song because the drums and the guitar are just fantastic. The chorus is something that you just can't get out of your head. Believe me! Once you've listened to it all you hear is "Go on, go on/ Come on leave me breathless ...".
Give Me A Reason
I simply love the first line "it's not romantic here in blue/swimming swimming in blue" it's got that mysterious feel. However the computerised addition at the beginning seems to have a contradictory effect. First it makes you wonder if it's a dance/remix song and then if you think about who's playing this song you realise it just doesn't belong here. The violin solo sounds brilliant and live it has so much force that it literally gets down to the bone.
Somebody For Someone
Probably the best track on the album in my opinion. It has strong beautiful lyrics which do sound like Andrea's writing. I love the guitar at the beginning and then Andrea's voice. My favourite part of this song is at 1:35 when Caroline and Sharon complement Andrea's voice in a heavenly harmonic blend: Look at me... See me...look for me...Save me... while Sharon and Caroline keep singing. The violin solo sounds lovely and all in all this song is simply brilliant.
Say
Too... poppy? I don't know but I find it a bit boring. Could be the disco feel they added to it. Bottom line it hasn't got anything that stands out, not even the lyrics.
All The Love In The World
Great love song. Pop to the core. Andrea's voice sounds so powerful here and the way her voice harmonises with Caroline's and Sharon's...great. The lyrics don't strike you as being deep but just easy to listen to and with Andrea's voice it's not hard at all. During the In Blue tour the band played this song acoustic and my god it's by far the best piece in the whole concert. It's a great song and should make it a radio hit if ever released.
Radio
I will always prefer the Unplugged version to this remixed one but I have to admit loved it the very first time I listened to it and still find it brilliant. Caroline's drumming sounds absolutely amazing live.
Irresistible
The secret is in the intro and the lyrics are so out of the ordinary "mineable". Can you believe Andrea saying these words to a guy? It's just not her. But ok we forgive her for it don't we? Kidding. This is a song like Breathless, it grows on you. The more you listen to it the more you like it. I love the outro as well
One Night
One of the highlights of the album. I think it's about two lovers. They can be together for just one night. After that something comes between them and they can never be together again. "My body, my soul, my love...just for one night". It's about total commitment and absolution....but for just one night. Andrea's voice sounds so peaceful and she really gets into the song. The way her voice shapes around the lyrics makes me feel like crying.
All In A Day
Boring again.... I don't know why but when I think of this song and Say I always mix them up in my head and don't know which is which LOL. It's not really a song you remember and after a while you tend to skip it when you play the CD
At Your Side
I would have gone with the Unplugged version. Still it has a catchy beat and powerful message, there's no question about it.
No More Cry
Has recently become my number one In Blue track. It's got an amazing beat and the message is impressive. This song was written for their father and it's absolutely brilliant. The drums at the beginning are awesome and the song is about one thing "life must go on" and it's soooooo energetic. One of my favourite parts of the song are Sharon's backing vocals. The only part I don't quite like is at 1:48.
Rain
Boring again. You just can't keep focused on the song. It's misplaced after the energy of No More Cry. Sounds like some 70's tune. But I like the guitar. And is it me or there's no "rain" word in it?
Give It All Up
Sorry to say it's the one Corrs song I find difficult (that's an understatement) to listen through. It's terrible. The lyrics have the depth of a brick wall and the effect added to the song like Andrea stalking from a phone booth is again a bad choice.
Hurt Before
I love the lyrics especially because they sound like they're about Andrea "you're just 25..." (she was 25 at the time she wrote it). The melody on the other hand isn't too special.... so 'flat'. The chorus along with Sharon and Caroline's voices are great, and it's also a great song to listen to.
Rebel Heart
I love this instrumental (I love them all). This one has that effect...it haunts you... it's not at all traditional but it's a true masterpiece. Sharon did a great job writing it. At long last I can hear the violin and tin whistle blend on this CD ;-)
